1000x better than An Unexpected Journey. Embellishments and inaccuracies be damned. Ths was an awesome movie, and Smaug is the greatest thing I have ever seen in a film. The only downside I've found to these movies is they lack the emotional weight of impending doom the LOTR trilogy has.
They did an awesome job with Smaug. The last 45 minutes were great but the other then that I thought it was meh. Pretty much what I expected. I hate the orcs. They should have kept them like they did in the LOTR movies.
This movie made me feel like I never even read The Hobbit. There's so much extra bullshit going on its not even the same story.

This is the worst movie I've seen in theaters which is an accomplishment because I saw Star Trek:Insurrection and Ang Lee's Incredible Hulk in theaters.
I feel really stupid in retrospect for thinking that a Hobbit trilogy was going to be a good thing. But it wasn't like it's The Secret Life of Walter Mitty where it's an 8 page (?) short story that needs to be blown up to be adapted. The Hobbit is a 300+ page book that already has a very deep and detailed story arc.
They invented a problem in adjusting the length, and used it to sneak in a female lead and a goofy love story to make it digestible to the 0.0001% of the population that wasn't going to see the move.
I am ok with it if there is a 2 hour Battle of 5 Armies.
