New site? Maybe some day.
Best Buy only charged me like 30 bucks to install a single disc cd player. But I assume the amount of labor involved depends on the vehicle. |
best buy gave me an estimate of about a hundred bucks. i've seen them do it before and the job only takes about 5 minutes. they use a special tool to get the stereo out (ford) and then they hook up a harness and throw it in. |
on the south shore. quincy / weymouth area. |
state street discounters cost me $150+, but I had like 10 things to install and new wires. |
Craigslist.
Best Buy occasionally offers free installation sales. |
sPAM: that looks like a good site but some of the links aren't fully done yet or something like that.
xmikex: yeah, craigslist sounds like a good idea to check. |
oh I see what you did there. |

I was gonna say, there's Superior Radio in Saugus that's pretty good....don't know if you want to go all the way to Saugus for this though |
just do it yourself bro. easiest thing in the work. splice the red wire with the red wire, the blue wire with the blue wire, etc.
if you can hook up a playstation, you can install a CD player. |

yeah, i've done my own amp, speakers, and cd player in my old truck but that was years ago. and i remember it being a bitch. if i do it myself, i'll probably have to buy a kit so the cd player isn't bouncing around right? i know the stock radio is probably twice as big/high as the cd player. |
they have spacers called fascis that make a standard sized aftermarket CD player fit bigger factory decks.
10$ at walmart or best buy.
that's not bad.
what about the wiring harness? |
i need to get an aftermarket stereo installed in my car. i might check out that place in saugus. i live nearby. |

I got a sweet radio installed with a hardwired iPod dock cable....they did a good job
if you're coming from Revere, its right before Cliftondale Square |
usually those are about 10$ also.
sometimes you can find the whole kit with fascia and harness for like 15.
you'll need the removal tool for the deck thats in there. It's just a par of metal c-shaped bars. If they have them at walmart, buy it, use it, then say it doesn't fit and return it.
or if you get the harness and fascia through stealth audio in whitman (on rt 18) they may just let you use the tool or take the deck out for you for cheap/free. nice guys over there. |
i was going to go to the ford dealership down the street after work to see if they'll just pop it out for free. i've owned fords all my life and i am familiar with that tool. what a pain in the ass they make it.
about the fascia, do i need to know the radio's dimensions before i buy one or are they universal/changable? |
100 bucks isnt that bad considering they are not selling the stereo... other wise its more of a hassle incase you break something. Naw mean? yea do it your self or ur a huge god damn asslickin pussy. http://www.installdr.com/ |

pretty much all single space cd players are the same size.
the only thing you'll need is the year and make of your truck.
if you don't see one that fits an f150, the ford explorer/mercury mountaineer of the same year have the same stereo and dash i believe. |
cool, it sounds easy enough. i do wiring pretty well too. |

actually, that website is great. i printed out all of the instructions. |

You can fashion those out of a wire hanger. True? |
If you didn't live so far away I'd offer to do it. So basically what I'm getting at is me replying to this is pointless. |

i did and it sucked. Turns out you can buy them for 2-3 bucks at walmart.
When i did mine about 2 years ago i did all sorts of stupid wire splitting. I've seen adapters for fairly cheap around since then.
I have no skills at all, this is an easy job to do your self. |
